Common Frog

The common frog is our most widespread, best known and most loved amphibian. It has declined in recent years due to habitat erosion, drainage schemes and the all too frequent filling in of farm ponds. It is a highly adaptable species however and has been able to some extent to overcome habitat loss by colonising garden ponds and other artificial waterbodies. For the time being this species is holding it’s own and gives us no great cause for concern. If you wish to help frogs, the best thing you can do is install a decent sized pond in your garden, which it will quickly colonise. A word of warning though - ponds are dangerous places for young children who should only be allowed near them with careful supervision.
